Do you use social media to share your creativity with the world or do you search for recognition in the eyes of others?
Do you love yourself or do you ask to be loved?
Which one is the right answer? Don’t we seek both? Is it wrong to feel that way?
The more I think of these questions, the trickier they get.
It’s in our nature as social beings to want to feel loved, respected, admired. But does it really matter how many “likes” you get when you don’t love yourself?
I can think of only one answer and that is NO.
No number can replace the value of your own “like”.
We want more when we only need one.
Self-love is extremely hard to achieve especially in the creative world. It is a constant battle against yourself and the universe, a battle that you cannot always be the winner but you have to remain a fighter. There will always be others out there who are more talented, creative, intelligent, beautiful, successful but remember they are not perfect, just like you! Perfectionism doesn’t exist so don’t seek for it. Instead seek for improvement, self-growth, evolution.
As a creator myself, I am constantly fighting with those thoughts, those doubts but the fact that I’m still here, I’m still trying, I’m still improving means that I didn’t let them take me down. Yes, I have experienced some loses myself only to come back stronger. Even though I know I can do better, or actually that I will do better, I am proud of where I am standing right now, I am proud of this moment.
So, here are some small reminders on how to cultivate self-love as a creator.
It’s not a competition against others but against yourself.

Stop comparing yourself to others. Such a cliche, I know, but I find this one the hardest to achieve. Our mind is a dangerous place and even though we can control and direct our conscious thoughts that’s not how it works with our subconscious. Have you ever wondered why we feel more vulnerable at night? That’s when our subconscious “wakes up” and “hits us”. That’s when you have to remind yourself that this is not a competition against others but against yourself.
Instead of focusing on others, think of how far you’ve come, what you’ve accomplished, the fears you overcame and how you can keep improving in the future. Every moment of our lives we get exposed to others who have done better, who have reached most of their goals, who have succeeded in life, we are so used to see successful people around us that we forget the effort, the struggle, the patience they got through to get there.
We compare their result with our beginning.
Mindset is everything.

So as to be able to inspire others you have to feel inspired by your own self.
~But how am I gonna do that when my life isn’t perfect?
~Does it have to be?
We can get inspired by our failures as much as by our victories. It’s all about the lesson that we got, the experience that we gained, the way we overcame it. If you are not satisfied with how things are, change them. Don’t quit because of a failure. Get stubborn and prove your worth to the world.
Numbers are just numbers.

As time goes, it’s all about the numbers, the followers, the likes, the views, etc. Less and less care about the content, the connection, the interaction, the personality behind those numbers. It’s not about the account, it’s about the person behind it. Let’s forget about the numbers for a moment.
If numbers weren’t there will you still do it? Will you do it for yourself?
If yes, then that’s all it matters. Keep going.
