“Fashion has to reflect who you are, what you feel at the moment, where you’re going.”

Pharell Williams

I truly believe that style comes from within, that it has depth, that it shows character. Even if you own the dreamiest closet of them all, it’s meaningless unless you have the power to bring it into life. Without a personality you won’t be able to stand out. You will be just another “hanger” for your clothes.

I feel like more and more young girls are afraid of expressing their individuality. I am sick of seeing the same damn outfit on every girl because it’s trendy, without any sign of themselves. The only thing their outfit says about them is “I want to be like everyone else”. Is this how you want to introduce yourself to the world? I am pretty sure you have your own story to tell, so dress like it.

Work on you,for you.

As strange as it seems, I find this one to be the most crucial step. How are you gonna express your inner self if you don’t even know the depths of your own soul? And even if you have discovered a part of who you are, it takes courage to share it with the world, don’t you think? Confidence, mindset, trust, self-love…you need to work on yourself so as to gain them. Keep in mind that it’s important not only to seek to know parts of yourself but to come at peace with them as well.

Dress depending on your mood.

Before you start getting ready ask yourself “what do I feel wearing today?” instead of “what should I wear?”. Mindset is everything and those little things are the ones that make the difference. For example, there are days we have zero motivation whatsoever so it’s up to you to choose your mood for that day. It’s ok not to be ok! or There is nothing a cute outfit and a cup of coffee can’t fix! Are you gonna embrace that feeling by wearing your comfiest sweatpants or are you gonna try to put yourself together by throwing on a blazer to sharpen up your look? It’s not about what is right or wrong, it’s about how you feel at the moment.

“Your style represents your mood, your personality, yourself. You have many sides and so does your style.”

excerpt from my blog post How to find your personal style

DIY your clothes.

And I don’t mean just the old ones. There are times that you can’t just find the perfect ripped pair of jeans, so why not DIY them yourself? Even something simple as adding stickers or pins to your clothes counts as DIY. Anyways, if you aren’t confident in your DIY skills, you can personalize your clothes in certain stores. For example, you can create a graphic tee with your favorite quote or design printed on the back. Those little details are the ones that give a more ” you” touch to the look.

Don’t follow trends, start them.

You are you, so do your own thing. Everone has their own unique sense of style so don’t try to please anyone else except yourself. Don’t make the mistake to limit yourself by following only certain trends or by trying to label your style. Being authentic means to think out of the box. Of course, you can still be inspired by others since gathering inspiration and making it yours is part of your creativity. Although, you need to be carefull not to lose yourself and just end up copying others.

  1. Wow, this is so true! I love your premise. I totally agree in that fashion is a way to present yourself exactly in the way you want, an unadulterated vision. ❤
